Speaking in Parliament today, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace officially confirmed his intention to resign from his post in the next government reshuffle.
Source. This was reported by the BBC.
Wallace presented plans for the development of the British Armed Forces to MPs. The last time such plans were presented two years ago, and since then the situation in the world and Europe has changed significantly.
Presenting this updated document to the parliament, Ben Wallace said that the conflict in Ukraine, which is now the focus of the military's attention, has become, in his words, "an incubator for new ways of warfare."
It is noted that the conclusions drawn from the hostilities in Ukraine deeply permeate the 92 pages of this document – from the need for operational innovation on the battlefield and electronic warfare methods to the importance of long-range artillery and the need to have sufficient ammunition.
In addition, the British government wants to change the relationship between the armed forces and industry, another attempt to fix the often-criticized military procurement system.
As for the situation on the frontline in Ukraine, Wallace said that Russia as a military power has turned out to be much more fragile than expected.
In his opinion, Ukraine can win this war. Wallace noted that Ukrainian troops are advancing about 300-400 meters a day in their counteroffensive, which "has not yet become alarmingly slow."
Speaking about relations with Russia, Wallace said that "something changed when Putin used nerve agents in Salisbury." According to him, the substance used then could have potentially killed "3,000 to 4,000 people in England."
Background. As a reminder, Ben Wallace explained what he meant when he said that Ukraine should be "more grateful."
