Chernobyl operates under the guns of the occupiers. The sensors are destroyed.

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant, like all the facilities of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, have been under the control of the occupiers since February 24.  There is no joint service and there never was, although Russia and its media (even the specialized nuclear ones) pretend that there is an alleged joint service of the Russian military with the Ukrainian Guards.

As of march 2, the staff have remained on duty for 7 days straight without any breaks. It is the same shift that started its work when the Russian attack commenced.  All the workers have not had the opportunity to pass on their shifts and have to keep working, as the nuclear workers did during the biggest nuclear accident in 1986.

In total, a shift at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant lasts for 12 hours. During all this time, the staff have been constantly at work (at the remote control, at the computer, working with the equipment, etc.).  As of March 2, Chernobyl personnel have been at work for more than 160 hours.

As a result of the Russian attack on February 24 all the ChNPP facilities located in the exclusion zone have been under Russian control, namely nuclear waste storage facilities (ChNPP and SNFSF-2), new safe confinement of the Shelter facility and units №№ 1,2,3 ChNPP.  Their condition is currently unknown, the automated system for monitoring the radiation situation sensors have been broken by the occupiers.

In this regard, there is the reaction of the IAEA, which issued six statements of strong concern and warnings to both sides to refrain from actions that would threaten nuclear security. The IAEA Director General Grossi said: "It is extremely important that this continues to be the case and that NPP personnel continue to perform their vital work without being under too much pressure and stress."

For the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, where personnel have been working under the control of Russian machine gunners invariably since February 24, it is difficult to call it a "regular operation" or "unpressured and stress-free operation".

The IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said in his speech to the Board of Governors today: "The immediate cessation of Russia's military action is needed to ensure the safety of Ukraine's nuclear facilities.
