Finland announces its intention to join NATO “as soon as possible”
The country is currently discussing security guarantees with partner countries during the interim period

Finland hopes that 30 NATO members will ratify the decision on its joining the North Atlantic Alliance “as soon as possible” provided that its candidacy alone or with Sweden.
This was announced on Wednesday by Prime Minister Sanna Marin, RFI reports.
“This would be the best security guarantee we could have,” she said during a news conference of Nordic leaders in Copenhagen.
“But, of course, we are discussing with major NATO members security guarantees and security issues that we may have in the interim period,” said the leader of the Social Democrats, referring to the United States, Britain, Germany and France.
For its part, the United Kingdom says it will help Finland in case of a russian attack, whether or not it is a member of NATO.
This was stated by British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace during his visit to Helsinki, writes “European Pravda” with reference to the BBC.
“It is impossible for Britain not to support Finland or Sweden if they are ever attacked, regardless of any major formal agreement. We are European countries that have the same values, that have deep, long histories,” he said.
Since the veggies of russia's invasion of Ukraine, Helsinki and Stockholm are approaching a submitting of their candidatures to join NATO to better defend themselves against russia.
