German opposition leader accuses Scholz of deliberately delaying arms supplies to Ukraine

What happened? The leader of the opposition in the German parliament – the Christian Democratic Union Friedrich Merz accused the federal government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (from the German Workers' Party) of deliberately delaying the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

He referred to complaints from defense contractors who had not been given export licenses for tanks yet.
“The Chancellor has got used to a rhetoric that does not match what he claims to do with us,” the German Opposition leader said. He added: “The inter-party resolution is calling for the delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine to combat russian aggression. But Scholz doesn't say much about that.” Instead, the Chancellor keeps talking about the risk of escalation.
“There is a risk of escalation if we do not help Ukraine,” Merz said.
