russian troops destroyed Artemsil plant with missiles, now the salt deliveries are possible only from abroad.
On May 26, russian troops launched a missile strike on Soledar in the Donetsk region. According to media reports, the building of Artemsil plant was destroyed as a result of an attack. One month before it had stopped its work. Video from the scene of event was published by Ukrainian Independent Information Agency.
According to Free Radio, one of the russian missiles hit the Artemsil mines and the other one fell near the mines. Some of the plant's premises were completely destroyed, other buildings had broken windows.
According to preliminary information, the strike was carried out by 9M79-1 guided missiles fired from the TochkaU complex. In total, at least 4 missiles were fired at the city. One of them was shot down by the air defense system.
As a result of the shelling, the power line was damaged and part of the city was left without electricity. The railway station, which exported salt, is regularly shelled.
The city-forming enterprise Artemsil completely covered Ukraine's salt needs and was one of the largest European suppliers. The plant's products went to Hungary, Poland, Georgia and Moldova.
The work of the plant was stopped due to the russian invasion of Ukraine and the approaching of the line of fire. In April, the last stocks of products were taken out from Artemsil.
The shutdown of the enterprise caused the rise in salt prices in Ukraine. Salt was much more expensive than sugar for the first time. Thus, a 10 kg bag of salt cost 325 hryvnias, and a similar bag of sugar – 65 hryvnias less. The most expensive pack of salt (Himalayan) is sold on store shelves for 95 hryvnias.
russia has occupied springs with high-quality sea salts. Therefore, most likely, Ukraine will now have to buy salt abroad.
The Ukrainian retailers have already agreed the import of salt to replace Artemsil products.
