What happened? Within a week, the russian military deported almost 3,000 Ukrainians, including 300 children, from Mariupol to a filtration camp in the village of Bezymenne.
Source. This was announced by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova on her Telegram page.
Details. After filtering measures, the occupiers formed groups of Mariupol residents, who were first deported to Taganrog and then to the depressed regions of russia.
According to her, at least 10% of citizens who did not pass the filter were considered by russians to be “dangerous for the russian regime.” They were arrested and then sent to the former G52 penal colony in Olenivka village in Donetsk region, or taken to the infamous Isolation Prison in Donetsk. Their current stay there is accompanied by hours of interrogations, tortures, death threats and coercion to cooperate with occupiers.
“The capturing and torturing of hostages is an act of terrorism in accordance with the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism and War Crimes in accordance with Article 8 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court,” said the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
Denisova called on the UN Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights Violations during russia's military invasion of Ukraine to take into account these facts of war crimes and human rights violations.
Previously. Denisova visited a hospital where Ukrainian servicemen released from russian captivity were being treated. Most of them were taken prisoner near Mariupol.
