There will be a new holiday in Ukraine – the Day of Ukrainian Statehood

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has decided that on July 28 a new holiday, the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, will be celebrated in Ukraine.

This was announced by the deputy of the “Voice” faction Yaroslav Zheleznyak in his Telegram channel.

On August 24, 2021, on the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the launch of a new holiday – the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, which will be celebrated on the Day of the christianization of Kievan Rus, and signed an appropriate decree.

This is stated in the adopted bill ¹5864. At the plenary session of the parliament on May 31, the bill was supported by 257 people's deputies.

Bill ¹5864 envisages supplementing Article 73 of the Labor Code of Ukraine with a paragraph establishing July 28, the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, as a public holiday.

On August 25, the head of state introduced to parliament a bill ¹5864 to establish the Day of Ukrainian Statehood. He described it as urgent, but the Verkhovna Rada supported the idea only in the midst of russia's war against Ukraine.

July 28 is traditionally celebrated by Orthodox Christians as the Day of Christianization of Kievan Rus and Prince Volodymyr the Great.
