In May, Ukraine transported 807,000 tons of grain by rail
The country has reached the limit of exports with the existing railway infrastructure

What happened? In May of this year, Ukraine increased exports of grain cargo by rail by 20.4% compared to April – up to 807,000 tons.
Source. This was announced by the head of Ukrzaliznytsia Oleksandr Kamyshyn in an interview with Forbes.
Details. According to him, the figure of 800,000 tons of grain per month is the limit for railway logistics of Ukraine, and it can be significantly increased only with the active assistance of neighboring countries.
“In order for us to be able to export an additional 300-400 thousand tons, we have to think in terms of “end-to-end” infrastructure. We are negotiating with the Poles to allow the operation of grain trucks on their territory. Then it will be necessary to open our operator there and at the same time, wherever possible, to plant branches with narrow tracks on our territory (1435 mm wide tracks are used in Poland – trans.),” the head of Ukrzaliznytsia explained.
He added that “now we need to expand transshipment in European ports and additional cars that will deliver Ukrainian grain from the Polish border are needed as well. About 20 million tons of old harvest are stored in warehouses of Ukraine. That is why we have to export 5 million tons a month by all modes of transport.”
