European Commission recommends Ukraine be granted EU candidate status
The commission also recommends that Georgia be granted candidate status, but only if it meets specific conditions

What happened? The European Commission has recommended that Ukraine and Moldova be granted EU candidate status as a symbolic step on the long road to membership of the European Union.
Source. This was announced at a briefing by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, reports Bloomberg.
Details. The EU’s executive arm approved it with conditions that the pair will have to meet in the future on the rule of law, justice and anti-corruption.
The commission also recommended that Georgia receive candidate status, but after it meets specific conditions.
Now it is up to the leaders of European countries to make the final decision on granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for the European Union at the summit on June 23-24.
Previously. The head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Matti Maasikas said that on the eve of the European Commission's decision on Ukraine's application for EU membership, he had positive anxiety. The diplomat reminded that on June 17, 2022 the decision of the European Commission on Ukraine's application for membership would be published.
“Cannot help recalling a similarly beatiful summer day 25 years ago when the Commission opened my native Estonia’s EU path,” the diplomat wrote. He noted that he then had the same positive anxiety.
