Russia has lost more than half of its tanks in Ukraine - Oryx
The occupying army suffered the greatest losses in Kharkiv region

In less than a year of the war in Ukraine, the Russian army has lost half of the fleet of combat-ready tanks it assembled for the invasion on February 24, 2022.
Source. This was reported by CNN, citing data from the Oryx project, which tracks documented losses of equipment on both sides of the conflict.
Details. According to Oryx, exactly 1000 Russian tanks – from Soviet T-62s made in the 1960s to the most modern T-90 models – were destroyed by the Ukrainian military. Another 544 tanks were captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 65 were abandoned, and 79 were damaged.
The total tank losses of the Russian army, according to Oryx, reached 1688 vehicles.
"Russia started the war with about 3,000 tanks on the move. Therefore, there is a high probability that half of the tanks that were in service were lost," says military analyst and Oryx project participant Jakub Janowski.
The Russian army suffered record losses of tanks during the Ukrainian Armed Forces' autumn counteroffensive in Kharkiv region. Between September 6 and 10 alone, the 4th Guards Tank Army, which was stationed near Izyum, lost about half of its equipment, or almost 100 tanks.
Background. According to Oryx, the total Russian losses of BMPs, armored personnel carriers, tanks, missile systems, communication centers, helicopters and aircraft, trucks, artillery pieces and other equipment for the full year of the war exceeded 9,000 units.
