EU summit participants fail to agree on joint purchases of ammunition for Ukraine
Some countries opposed the proposal

The European Union countries failed to agree on a proposal for joint purchases of ammunition for Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at a press conference following the EU summit.
Source. This was reported by the BBC.
Details. "Yesterday we discussed the supply of ammunition, which Ukraine really needs now, until late at night. There was no positive reaction to our proposal from some countries," he said, without specifying which countries he was referring to.
According to Moravetsky, joint procurement and joint orders would benefit all EU and NATO countries, as well as Ukraine.
"But just as the discussion about tanks seemed completely impossible at the beginning, just as the discussion about Patriot systems was pushed back, I think we will soon return to the topic of ammunition at the next EU summit," the Polish prime minister expressed hope.
A similar idea has been discussed since last fall. Back in November, European Parliament President Josep Borrell insisted on creating a mechanism for joint purchases of weapons and ammunition, similar to the one used to purchase vaccines during the Covid pandemic.
Background. Earlier, the Estonian Prime Minister proposed that the EU purchase weapons for Ukraine using the vaccine procurement system.
