Details. Vladislav Klyushin, the owner of a Moscow-based information technology company called M-13 that worked for the Russian government, was found guilty of conspiracy and securities fraud.
"The jury called Mr. Klyushin out for exactly what he is – a cybercriminal and a fraud," said U.S. Attorney Rachel Rollins in Boston, whose office prosecuted the case.
They managed to earn almost $90 million through crime.
Out of the five Russians involved in the scheme, 42-year-old Klyushin was the only one to be arrested. He was detained in Switzerland during a ski trip in March 2021 and extradited to the United States.
Among the defendants is Ivan Yermakov, a former Russian military intelligence officer, whom the US authorities suspect of involvement in hacker attacks to interfere in the 2016 US presidential election, as well as attacks on anti-doping agencies.
Klyushin owns the Moscow-based information technology company M-13, which developed the Katyusha system for monitoring media and social networks. This system has reportedly been used in the Kremlin and law enforcement agencies since at least 2016.
Background. As reported, Prigozhin admitted for the first time that he invented and founded a "troll factory" that interfered in the US elections.
