During the Munich Security Conference, the fifth President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko submitted proposals for a new package of sanctions against Russia.

Source. This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the European Solidarity party.

"I had brief meetings with the participants of the conference, from President Macron to President (of Finland Sauli) Niinistö. With the European Commissioners, who are shaping our progress on the candidate status, and with the foreign ministers of the EU member states. Why is this so important? Because next week the Council of Foreign Ministers of the European Union will take place. And it was fundamentally important for me to convey the position on a separate sanctions list against the Russian Federation," Poroshenko said.

"For us, the main effect of sanctions is how much Russia will lose in import revenue in 2023. Therefore, the priority is sanctions against the supply of Russian liquefied natural gas from the Yamal field, transportation restrictions, including the list of icebreaking gas carriers. Jointly agreed decisions can cut Russian exports by almost $60 billion," Poroshenko said.

"We have conveyed our position on making it more difficult for Russians to export oil. If we block the Suez Canal for Russian tankers and they go around Africa, it will mean that they will sell half as much oil to India and China," he added.

The third proposal was to increase Russia's frozen foreign exchange reserves.

"We want them (the reserves) to run out in the third quarter of this year, and the import-dependent Russian economy will be unable to finance the war, unable to finance the killing of Ukrainians," Poroshenko said.

"I presented a carefully developed program at the Munich Security Conference and handed it over as a non-paper to a large number of EU foreign ministers. We very much hope that both the European Parliament and the European Commission will listen to our arguments," he summarized.

Background. As reported, the EU countries continue to discuss the tenth package of sanctions against Russia, which is planned to be adopted on the anniversary of the beginning of the war in Ukraine. But so far they have not managed to agree on the details.
