UN member states are currently discussing a draft resolution calling for a "just and lasting peace" in Ukraine.
The document calls on Russia to "immediately, fully and unconditionally withdraw all its armed forces from the territory of Ukraine."
But Amir Saeed Irani, Iran's representative to the UN, said the proposed resolution "falls short" of "addressing all aspects of the problem in a polite and impartial manner."
He claims that it does not recognize the provocative actions that contributed to the "crisis."
Instead of uniting member states, the resolution "polarizes" them, Iranian officials said.
Earlier, he said that Iran is "constant" in its commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in the UN.
The Iranian delegate added that Tehran calls for an "immediate and comprehensive ceasefire" along with "humanitarian assistance to the needy" as a first step to end the conflict.
Background. In early February, The Guardian reported that Iran had used ships and a state-owned airline to transport new types of long-range drones to Russia for use in the war with Ukraine.
