"Both the US and German governments say behind closed doors that Ukraine has until the fall to return the territories. If it fails or succeeds only partially, the pressure to force negotiations will increase," the article says.
"History has shown that sometimes negotiations lead not to peace but to new wars. Because every agreement, every arrangement, every negotiation with Putin over the past few years has led to one thing: Russia has not complied with anything, only gained time and eventually attacked the whole of Ukraine," Bild emphasizes.

"This makes it clear to Putin that Joe Biden's slogans ('We will support Ukraine no matter how long it takes') were not honest, and Putin's strategy of buying time with more and more mobilizations could exhaust Ukraine," the newspaper writes.
Ukraine plans to launch a counteroffensive in the spring. In mid-December, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhny said that he needed 300 tanks, 700 infantry fighting vehicles and 500 howitzers to "reach the frontlines on February 23, 2022."
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kyrylo Budanov, claimed that the ultimate goal is to return to the 1991 borders, i.e., the liberation of all territories, including Donbas and Crimea. According to him, the fighting will be "the hottest" in March, after which the Ukrainian Armed Forces "will inflict a final defeat on Russia."
Recently, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said that Ukraine's allies would help make the Ukrainian army's counteroffensive as successful as possible and promised to support Kyiv as long as necessary. He also noted that since the beginning of the invasion, the West has provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with lethal weapons totaling $50 billion.
