UPDATED: The tax amnesty campaign is over – Ukrainians have legalized assets worth almost 9 billion UAH

UPDATED at 17:20, statistics as of March 1 was added:

According to Danylo Hetmantsev, MP, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, 845 declarations have been submitted since September 1, 2021. The total value of the declared assets amounted to over 8 billion 823 million UAH. And the total amount of the fee was 547.5 million UAH. 2.6 billion UAH, i.e. 30%, was declared within the last two weeks.

On March 1, the tax amnesty finished in Ukraine. This is an opportunity to legalize income whose origin is unknown. The relevant deadlines were set by Law No. 2516-IX of 15 August, 2022.

According to the State Tax Service, as of February 13, 2023, Ukrainians declared 6.2 billion UAH as part of the tax amnesty, and the amount of the one-time fee was 379.5 million UAH. More than half of this amount was declared during martial law – 3.92 billion UAH, with a one-time fee of 246.6 million UAH.

As a reminder, in June 2021, MPs passed Law No. 1539-IX. It was envisaged that from September 1, 2021, to September 1, 2022, any citizen could declare income and assets for which no taxes were paid. To do so, they had to file a special declaration indicating the hidden assets. After that, they had to pay a one-time fee. It is worth noting that after legalization, the taxpayer does not face any consequences for tax evasion.

Due to the war, the one-time voluntary declaration period was extended until March 1, 2023.
