Ukraine intends to export 50 million tonnes of food by July this year.
This was announced by Mykola Solskyi, Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, in an interview with Mind.
He emphasised that this amount could be adjusted both up and down due to the war. According to the minister, the volume of grain exports is highly dependent on domestic consumption, which fell by 3-4% last year.
Mr. Solskyi also commented on the possibility of Mykolaiv port joining the "grain initiative". This decision would help increase Ukraine's logistics capabilities and reduce the cost of logistics.
"At the same time, it should be understood that the primary issue is still the number of ships that are allowed to enter the Bosphorus. Since now the intensity of the inspection does not allow even the Odesa port to be loaded, not to mention Mykolaiv," explained the head of the department.
The minister added that Ukraine had some leverage over russia, which could allow it to involve another port in the grain deal. However, these levers are not public, so Ukrainians were urged to wait for the results of the negotiations.
