Biden's budget proposal includes specific funding for Ukraine

The fiscal year 2024 budget submitted by US President Joe Biden's administration requests $63.1 billion for the State Department and the US Agency for International Development, including specific funding for the war in Ukraine and countering China – nearly $5 billion more than the adjusted fiscal year 2023 budget.

The request includes $1.7 billion "to help Ukraine win its war and lay the foundation for reform and reconstruction to win the world, as well as help other war-affected partners stabilize their economies and prepare for recovery," the State Department said in a statement cited by CNN.

In addition, the new budget proposes a $1.5 increase in funding for the Center for Countering Russian Propaganda and Disinformation.

It also seeks $8.9 million "to support the U.S. strategic priority goal of increasing NATO's joint funding starting in 2023, as agreed by the North Atlantic Council in December 2022."

"Increased funding for NATO's budget will allow the Alliance to maintain its technological and operational advantage in a changing strategic environment, including threats and challenges such as an aggressive Russia and China, the need to strengthen cybersecurity, and threats posed by new and disruptive technologies," the budget justification says.

Background. As a reminder, the former commander of NATO forces in Europe said the West does not provide Ukraine with enough assistance.
