Borrell: there is no further possibility to tighten sanctions against russia
The diplomat suggests focusing on helping Ukraine instead

Josep Borrell, the head of the European Union's foreign policy department, believes that the EU has virtually no room left to tighten sanctions against russia, and now it is necessary to focus primarily on providing military and financial assistance to Ukraine.
Source. Borrell said this in an interview with Euractiv.
According to the politician, Brussels has gradually imposed 10 packages of sanctions against Moscow in the year since the start of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the reserves for this are "almost exhausted."
Josep Borrell emphasized that the European Union is considering increasing the funds earmarked for Kyiv.
It is about 2 billion euros by the end of 2023, in addition to the 3.6 billion euros already provided since the beginning of the russian invasion.
On March 8, EU defense ministers agree to increase supplies of 155 mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine. According to Borrell, "we are now dealing with a war of attrition, but perhaps in the future it will turn into a more maneuverable war, during which the level of ammunition consumption will decrease – and we will act based on the situation in the theater of operations."
Background. Borrell said that the European Union would train more than 11,000 Ukrainian soldiers by the end of March, and another 30,000 soldiers would be trained by the end of the year.
