Chief Prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal: Putin's arrest warrant will be valid for the rest of his life
There is no statute of limitations for war crimes, Karim Khan emphasizes

The arrest warrants for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and Russian Children's Ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova will be valid for the rest of their lives. The order can only be revoked if Putin is brought to trial and the judges dismiss the case.
Source. This was stated by the prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal, Karim Khan, BBC reports.
"People, wherever they are, must understand that there is a law and that with power comes responsibility. There is no statute of limitations for war crimes," the prosecutor emphasized on BBC Radio 4.
According to Khan, the court initially planned to keep the arrest warrants secret, but decided to make them public to try to stop further crimes.
"Children cannot be treated like spoils of war, they cannot be deported," the prosecutor emphasized.
"He (Putin) will remain an alleged criminal until he stands trial or until he is brought to trial and acquitted. This seems extremely unlikely, so he will remain a suspected criminal for the rest of his life," Khan said.
Background. As reported, the Russian Investigative Committee opened a proceeding against the prosecutor and judges of the Hague Tribunal.
