In January, 73% of businesses suspended operations due to power outages
14% of enterprises worked all the time

According to the results of January 2023, 73% of businesses suspended operations due to power outages. On average, they lost 15% of their working time due to the lack of electricity.
This is stated in the tenth monthly survey of enterprises "Ukrainian Business during the War" for February 2023, released by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting.
It is noted that in January 2023, 73% of enterprises temporarily suspended operations due to power outages (for comparison: there were 82% in November and 89% in December). In view of this, the share of enterprises that did not experience power outages increased from 5% in December to 14% in January.
In addition, the number of companies that operated all the time increased to 14% (6% in December). 38% of enterprises did not work for 1-10% of the working time (30% in December), and 23% of enterprises did not work for 11-25% of the time (30% in December). Only 5% of enterprises did not work for more than half of the working time (51-100%) (11% in December).
Industries that traditionally demonstrate resilience in times of war also coped best with the blackouts. In particular, in the food industry, 27% of companies did not have any outages, and another 12% of companies in the industry operated even in the absence of electricity.
In the light industry, 7% of enterprises did not have any outages, and 17% did not stop working. At the same time, there were no companies without outages in woodworking, construction materials, and printing.
For a short period of time (1-10% of working hours), 51% of light industry enterprises, 50% of chemical industry enterprises, and 42% of construction materials production enterprises suspended operations.
"The situation has improved significantly in all industries. Among construction materials producers, the average loss of working time was 25% in January (26% in December). Woodworking (18%), metallurgy (17%) and machine building (16%) also had relatively high time losses. At the same time, the level of losses among food processing (12%), light industry (12%), chemical industry (13%) and printing (13%) has almost equaled," the study says.
