British intelligence: russians shift operational focus from Bakhmut to Avdiyivka and Kreminna-Svatove sectors
Experts report tensions between the russian Ministry of Defence and Wagner PMC
russia’s assault on the Donbas town of Bakhmut has largely stalled due to the exhaustion of the occupiers' forces. At the same time, Ukraine also suffered heavy losses in the defence.
This was reported on Twitter by the UK Ministry of Defence, citing defence intelligence.
According to the report, russia has likely shifted its operational focus to Avdiyivka, south of Bakhmut, and the Kreminna-Svatove sector in the north – areas where russia likely only aspires to stabilise its front line.
"This suggests an overall return to a more defensive operational design after inconclusive results from its attempts to conduct a general offensive since January 2023," the report says.
According to intelligence, the situation in russia has also likely deteriorated due to tensions between the russian Ministry of Defence and the Wagner PMC, both of which are fighting in the Bakhmut direction.
