Ukrainian photographer Yevhen Malolietka is one of the winners of the World Press Photo award
He was the only media representative in the first days of the bombing of Mariupol

Ukrainian photographer Yevgeniy Maloletka has won the World Press Photo award. He was among the winners in the Europe category. He was joined by four other photographers, two of whom took photos of the war in Ukraine.
The prize of the prestigious international competition was awarded to a series of photographs by Malolletka from Mariupol besieged by Russian troops in March 2022.
Maloletka, who was the only media representative together with his colleague Mstyslav Chernov in the besieged Mariupol, captured the aftermath of a Russian air strike on a Mariupol maternity hospital on March 9, 2022, mass graves, the moments when Russian shells hit and the victims.
The photographer Alkis Konstantinidis was also recognized in this category for his work "Yana and Victor", shot after the Russian shelling of Kharkiv.
The jury also recognized the series "Wounds of War" by photographer Emilio Morenatti, which depicts people who suffered amputations as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The 24 winners of World Press Photo were selected from more than 60,000 works by 3,752 photographers from 127 countries.
In December 2022, Yevhen Malolietka was named The Guardian's Photographer of the Year.
In October, the works of Chernov and Maloletka from Mariupol won the main prize at the French Visa pour l'Image competition.
