NATO's aid to Ukraine exceeds Russia's budget for the army

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, NATO countries have provided Ukraine with military assistance worth more than $65 billion, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference in Brussels.

At the same time, Russia plans to spend almost 5 trillion rubles, or $63.7 billion, on military needs in 2023, according to the draft budget law.

Thus, NATO countries' spending on strengthening Ukraine's military potential exceeded Russia's annual budget for national defense.

Moreover, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance once again promised to support Ukraine "as long as necessary" and also declared the unity of the bloc member states in this decision.

"We will not be intimidated. We will continue to support Ukraine. <...> We do not know when this war will end, but when it does, we will need to take measures to ensure that Ukraine can deter future aggression and that history does not repeat itself. We cannot allow Russia to continue undermining European security," he said.

Stoltenberg also spoke about plans to discuss long-term support for Ukraine during the upcoming meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels. He expressed hope that the ministers would approve a plan to start developing a multi-year program of military assistance to Kyiv.

Background. As reported, NATO countries will provide Ukraine with 6 battalions of Leopard tanks.
