Blinken: ceasefire talks between Ukraine and Russia are impossible now
It will only mean Russia's occupation of Ukrainian lands, he emphasized

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that negotiations on a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia are currently impossible.
According to him, such a solution to the conflict would consolidate the occupied territories in Russia, which can ensure neither a just nor a lasting peace.
"For some, the idea of a ceasefire may be tempting – and I understand that. But if it means de facto ratification of Russia's seizure of significant Ukrainian territories, it will not be a just and lasting peace," Blinken said.
The secretary of state also emphasized that Russia could use the ceasefire to regroup its troops in order to attack again in some time.
"Russia must get to the point where it is ready for constructive negotiations. The goal should be a just and lasting peace," the US Secretary of State emphasized.
Earlier, White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby said that only Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has the right to decide for himself whether he is ready to negotiate with Russia.
