SBU exposes fraudulent scheme of private gas trader that could disrupt heating season
Offenders caused losses to state-owned company amounting to over 37 million UAH
The SBU uncovered a fraudulent scheme of a private gas trader that could have disrupted the heating season in Dnipro Oblast.
The SBU press service reports.
The investigation established that in 2020, a gas trader from Kyiv entered into an agreement with one of the heat generating enterprises in Dnipro Oblast. However, despite the terms of the agreement, in mid-February 2021, the Kyiv-based company completely stopped supplying natural gas to the region.
In view of this, the government of Ukraine has arranged for gas supplies from Naftogaz of Ukraine. However, the state-owned company did not receive any money for this, unlike the Kyiv gas trader. Later, officials of this structure legalised the funds through controlled commercial structures.
Officials of the Kyiv company caused losses to Naftogaz of more than 37 million UAH. They are charged with forgery, misappropriation and legalisation of property. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint is being resolved.
