Germany proposes the EU to impose sanctions against the Russian nuclear industry
According to Robert Habeck, Russia is an unreliable partner

Against the backdrop of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the German government has called for EU sanctions against Russia's nuclear industry.
Source. This was reported by Deutsche Welle.
"We have seen that Russia deliberately uses dependence in the energy sector to exert pressure. Therefore, the federal government called on the European Commission to impose sanctions on the civilian nuclear sector. This should be part of the next sanctions package," said German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck.
Russia, among other things, supplies uranium for fuel rods for nuclear power plants and stores radioactive waste on its territory. According to Habeck, the European Union should strengthen its independence from Russia. the Russian Federation uses the West's dependence on energy to exert pressure, he emphasized.
"We have already made great progress in many areas, including energy. Only the nuclear sector remains," said the German Vice Chancellor.
According to Habeck, there is no justification for the preferential treatment of the Russian nuclear industry.
"Nuclear technology is an extremely sensitive area, and Russia can no longer be perceived as a reliable partner," he emphasized.
The German Vice Chancellor believes that a transition period is needed in the issue of sanctions against Russian nuclear energy.
"But it is important to start and not to be afraid of decisive actions in this area," he said.
Immediately after his visit to Kyiv in early April, Habeck called for sanctions against countries that continue to receive uranium from Russia despite the war in Ukraine.
Background. As reported in early April, German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck visited Ukraine with a delegation of businessmen.
