British intelligence: Russia has dug one of the world's largest defensive trench systems
This indicates serious Russian fears of a Ukrainian counteroffensive, the report says

Russia is digging trenches and building defensive structures, fearing a serious breakthrough by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In particular, since the summer of 2022, Russia has built one of the largest systems of military defenses seen in the world in many decades.
Source. This is stated in the daily report of British military intelligence.
The images show that Russia has made special efforts to strengthen the northern border of the occupied Crimea, including a multi-level defense zone near the village of Medvedivka, military experts emphasize.
In addition, the Russian military has dug hundreds of kilometers of trenches deep inside Russia, including in the Belgorod and Kursk regions.
According to analysts, the construction of such structures means that the Russian authorities are "deeply concerned" about the possibility of a large-scale breakthrough by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
At the same time, according to British intelligence, some of these works are also aimed at promoting "the official narrative that Russia is allegedly threatening Ukraine and NATO."
Background. Earlier, U.S. intelligence reported that the Kremlin was going to send another 115,000 contract soldiers to the war in Ukraine to replace the dead.
