State Department comments on the attack of unknown drones on the Kremlin

The United States is currently unable to confirm Russia's claims that Ukrainian drones attacked the Kremlin, State Department spokesman Anthony Blinken said, CNN reports.

He urged not to take the Russian authorities' statements at face value and added that Washington "simply does not know" what exactly happened in Moscow on the night of May 3.

Asked about the US position on Ukraine's involvement in the drone attack, Blinken said: "The decision on how to defend itself should be made by Ukraine itself."

The US is still gathering facts about the drone incident in Moscow, US officials say.

According to an American official, the United States was not warned about the alleged drone attack on the Kremlin.

"Whatever happened, there was no prior warning," the U.S. official told CNN, adding that U.S. authorities are still trying to figure out what exactly happened.

Background. As a reminder, the President's Office reported that the drone "attack" on the Kremlin may indicate that the Russians are preparing a terrorist attack.
