Ukrainian air force shoots down hypersonic missile Kh-47 Kinzhal for the first time
Missile launched from MiG-31K, intercepted with Patriot system
For the first time, the Ukrainian Air Force has successfully shot down a hypersonic Kh-47 Kinzhal missile in the skies over Kyiv Oblast.
This was reported by the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.
"Congratulations to the Ukrainian people on this historic event! Yes, we have shot down the 'unparalleled' Kinzhal! It happened during a night-time attack on May 4th in the skies over Kyiv Oblast. The Kh-47 missile was launched by a MiG-31K from russian territory," the Air Force Commander wrote on his Telegram channel.
He urged not to disclose information prematurely and emphasised that the Air Force would certainly report what, where, by what means, and when was intercepted.
"Help each other in difficult moments, believe in our Air Force, believe in air defence!" said Oleshchuk.
