Zelensky and von der Leyen plan to create a coordination group for Ukrainian exports

The European Union and Ukraine are planning to set up a coordination group to address the issue of exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to European countries.

This was announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv, where she arrived on a visit on Europe Day.

During a joint briefing, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the trade restrictions imposed by Eastern European countries "absolutely unacceptable."

According to the Ukrainian president, Kyiv is counting on the solidarity of neighboring countries given the challenges Ukraine is facing.

"We propose to create a coordination group to monitor the relevant issues and refrain from any decisions on trade without consulting Ukraine," he said.

Zelensky emphasized that such trade restrictions are harsh, protectionist and play into russia's hands, and Kyiv expects "strong" European decisions to cancel them.

He expressed confidence in the possibility of finding optimal solutions that would protect the interests of Europe as a whole and Ukrainians.

The head of the European Commission also revealed the content of the new, 11th package of EU sanctions against russia. According to her, this package consists of three elements.

First, the list of banned goods that enter russia through third countries is to be expanded.

In addition, the EU plans to create new tools to prevent third countries from circumventing sanctions.

"If we see that European goods are going to third countries and then end up in russia, the European Commission may propose to member states to impose sanctions against the export of these goods," von der Leyen explained.

According to her, these measures will be used very carefully, after a thorough risk analysis and approval by all EU members. The third element will be a ban on "shadow" structures from russia and third countries that deliberately circumvent EU sanctions, she noted.

Background. As reported, the EU may restrict exports of its goods to third countries in the 11th package of sanctions against russia.
