Currently, Moldova has no intentions of imposing restrictions on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine

"Imposing restrictions on imports would solve nothing. It would not lead to an increase in selling prices for Moldovan farmers, nor to a decrease in cost price," said the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Bolea, as reported by NewsMaker.

According to him, on the contrary, Ukraine would impose restrictions on the import of Moldovan products, "and then a lot would be lost."

The minister also pointed out that the volume of agricultural product imports from Ukraine was insignificant: only around 177 tonnes of wheat and 4 thousand tonnes of sunflower seeds had been imported.

Vladimir Bolea also commented on a potential ban on grain transit from Ukraine through Moldova. He indicated that the Chișinău government is not considering such a step.

"Transit does not negatively impact us. Thanks to transit, the Railway of Moldova managed to rehabilitate, the company paid salaries and even raised them," explained the government official.

However, according to him, the problem arises with truck freight transportations, as queues are formed at the customs towards Romania.
