Macron: France to provide Ukraine with long-range SCALP-EG missiles

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will provide Ukraine with additional military assistance. This will include armored vehicles, AMX-10 tanks, and SCALP-EG ammunition and missiles.

According to Macron, the range of the latter two "will allow Ukraine to resist and lead a counteroffensive," the BBC reports.

He emphasized that these are not weapons that can "reach Russia."

The long-range missiles that France has are no different from the Storm Shadow missiles provided to Ukraine by the UK.

They are produced by Britain and France, and the French version is called SCALP-EG.

Earlier, the UK also provided Ukraine with Storm Shadow. This was announced by British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace on May 11.

So far, these are Ukraine's first and only long-range missiles. The range of the export version of Storm Shadow is over 250 km.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces used it for the first time on May 12, during the shelling of Luhansk. The occupied city is 90 kilometers from the front line, so GMLRS, which can hit at 60-70 kilometers, cannot reach it.

Military experts and analysts of the Conflict Intelligence Team believe that the transfer of long-range missiles to Ukraine could change the course of the war.

Background. It was also reported that the UK would start training Ukrainian pilots on fighter jets and provide "hundreds" of drones with a range of 200 km.
