The US announces new sanctions against russia that will target drone sector
In addition to exports, they will also target russian propaganda and disinformation

Washington is preparing to announce new sanctions against russia that will affect the export of technologies used in Iranian drones.
Source. This was announced on Tuesday by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, moscowtimes.eu reports.
According to the official, the sanctions will be announced on Wednesday, May 31. In addition to exports, they will also target russian propaganda and disinformation.
"Tomorrow, we will announce new export control measures on technologies found in Iranian drones, as well as measures to combat russian disinformation and protect human rights defenders on the Internet," Blinken said at a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
On Wednesday, the Secretary of State will take part in an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Oslo.
In mid-May, the White House said that since August last year, Iran had supplied russia with more than 400 kamikaze drones. So far, drones are the main military aid Tehran has provided to moscow, but the kremlin expects more, said John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the White House National Security Council.
"We are talking about growing a defense relationship that will allow russia to kill people in Ukraine and Iran to stockpile military equipment that poses a threat to neighboring countries," the American official said.
Kirby then announced a new package of sanctions against individuals involved in the partnership between moscow and Tehran. A few days later, on May 19, the US authorities published a package of new sanctions, including an embargo on the supply of 1,224 industrial goods to russia, including electronics, antiques, alcohol, etc. In addition, hundreds of companies, mostly related to the defense sector, mechanical engineering and aircraft construction, were blacklisted.
Dozens of individuals, including russian businessmen, officials, and top managers of state agencies, were also subject to restrictions.
Background. As a reminder, the media claim that Secretary of State Blinken played a decisive role in the decision to provide Ukraine with F-16s. He also took part in the winter negotiations to provide Ukraine with Abrams tanks.
