Zelensky admits that Ukraine will not join NATO while the war continues
That is why the West is afraid to set official accession dates

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has admitted that his country will not be able to join NATO until the russian invasion is over.
Source. He said this during a joint briefing with Estonian President Alar Karis, BBC reports.
"We are adequate people and we understand that we will not involve any NATO country in the war. Therefore, we understand that we will not be a member of NATO while this war is ongoing. Not because we do not want to, but because it is impossible," he said.
Ukraine is a candidate to join NATO and the EU, but the West is wary of setting official deadlines for accession as the war continues.
Joining NATO means that Ukraine will be covered by the fifth article on collective defense, which obliges alliance members to defend the country in case of an attack.
The day before, Zelensky said at the European Political Community summit in Moldova that the doubts that European leaders would express before Ukraine's acceptance into NATO would push russia to attack more countries.
Background. As a reminder, Blinken called putin's war against Ukraine a strategic failure of russia.
