Ukraine will lose several million tonnes of harvest due to flooding in the south of the country – Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food

Due to the occupiers' destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, Ukraine could lose millions of tonnes of harvest. In addition to this, flooded regions will require a comprehensive agro-ecological assessment of soils after the water recedes.

This was stated by Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

He noted that without a water supply source, it would be impossible to grow vegetable products, and the cultivation of grains and oilseeds would take place according to an extensive model with low yields.

Vysotskyi also emphasised that over 100,000 tonnes of crops had been lost on the right bank. At the same time, it is difficult to determine losses on the left bank as yet, but it is known that several hundred thousand tonnes have been saved.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the harvest in three regions was under threat due to the undermining of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.
