The electricity market price should allow for free import – Halushchenko
He assures that there is currently no forecast for significant price fluctuations – at least for the summer

The price on Ukraine's electricity market should allow for the import of electricity from Europe to meet business needs.
This was announced in a comment to ExPro by Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko.
"We are moving towards Europe and the price on the electricity market must correspond to certain trends. It should allow for the importation of electricity to meet the needs of business," Halushchenko said.
According to him, there is currently no forecast for significant price fluctuations – at least for the summer.
"There are mechanisms, there is a desire to see how the market will work. And then, if necessary, price caps can be reintroduced fairly quickly," he clarified, commenting on possible market liberalisation.
"As for the possible option of new price caps – the Regulator has launched a procedure to have the quick ability to bring them back at any time," he explained.
Halushchenko stressed that it was very important to show that Ukraine was moving in a European direction and to see how the free market would function.
Background. The day before, Ukrenergo announced that the cancellation of price caps allowed for the unhindered import of electricity from Europe, so the system operator will approach the NERC with a proposal to establish such regulation that would not threaten the energy security of the Ukrainian energy system.
