Britain says sanctions against Russia will remain in place until it pays compensation to Ukraine
In addition, the government is developing a mechanism that will allow sanctioned persons to donate their frozen assets to Ukraine

The British government has announced the inclusion of a clause in the country's legislation that will keep sanctions against Russia in force until Moscow pays compensation to Ukraine.

It is also reported that the authorities are developing a mechanism that will allow individuals under sanctions to donate their frozen assets to rebuild Ukraine.
These steps have been taken on the eve of a large-scale international conference on Ukraine's recovery to be held in the UK this week.
"As Ukraine continues to defend itself against Russia's invasion, the horrific consequences of Putin's war are clear. Ukraine's reconstruction needs are enormous. With our new measures today, we are strengthening the UK's position on sanctions. We reaffirm that we want to use sanctions to make Russia pay for rebuilding the country it unjustifiably attacked," Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said on Monday.
Britain significantly expanded its anti-Russian sanctions in February 2022, after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.
However, as experts have noted, the British authorities' long-term efforts to attract foreign capital have led to the fact that the country's financial system is riddled with shell companies and other non-transparent structures that allow sanctions to be circumvented.
Background. As a reminder, the US Congress will introduce a law on the confiscation of Russian assets.
