Over 150 tonnes of lubricants entered the Dnipro from the sabotage of the Kakhovka HPP, from there it could reach the Mediterranean – Yermak

As a result of the occupiers' sabotage of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, more than 150 tonnes of lubricants and oil products have been discharged into the Dnieper River. It is noted that they could eventually reach the Mediterranean, the area of which is about 4 million km².

This was reported by Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

In addition, according to him, the area of flooded forests (over 50,000 ha) is larger than the total forest area in Iceland. Furthermore, approximately 20,000 wild animals lived in the flooded territory.

Yermak added that about 95,000 tonnes of fish and seafood perished, and the Kakhovka reservoir itself is covered with dead fish.

On the shores of the Black Sea in Bulgaria and Turkey, over 150 instances of finding the bodies of dolphins from Ukrainian shores have been reported. Yermak emphasises that it is not excluded that the current could carry the bodies of deer, foxes, and hares from the southern region of Ukraine to these countries.

Background. At least 32 petrol stations, depots and oil refineries were flooded, and even a small amount of chemicals is sufficient to contaminate soil and bodies of water for many years.
