US State Department authorizes sale of $15 billion worth of air defense systems to Poland
Most of them are Patriot systems

The US State Department has authorized the sale of an integrated air and missile defense combat control system (IAMD IBCS) to Poland. The contract is estimated at $15 billion.
Source. This is stated on the website of the State Department.
The package includes 48 Patriot launchers and about 650 PAC-3 MSE missiles, 12 LTAMDS radars, auxiliary equipment, spare parts, technical and logistical support.
The State Department noted that the possible deal "will support U.S. foreign policy and national security goals by enhancing the security of a NATO ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe."
In addition, the sale of the system will improve Poland's missile defense capabilities and serve to achieve its goals of modernizing its weapons, the department added.
"This is a very important strengthening of the Polish air defense system. We are waiting for the consent of the Congress," said Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak. The military department asked the United States to purchase six batteries of Patriot air defense systems last spring.
Poland has been consistently strengthening its defense against the backdrop of threats posed by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Last year, the republic received several American Patriot air defense systems and Abrams tanks, as well as tanks and howitzers from South Korea. Then negotiations with Seoul were finalized on the purchase of about 300 K239 Chunmoo MLRS.
In January 2023, Poland signed a $1.4 billion contract for the supply of 114 M1A1 Abrams tanks from the United States. The country's Defense Ministry also plans to buy submarines that can launch cruise missiles.
In May of this year, the United States supplied Poland with HIMARS MLRS for the first time. Warsaw bought 18 of these MLRS and two training facilities along with ammunition and equipment for $414 million.
Background. Meanwhile, it has been reported that the new Bulgarian government intends to start direct arms supplies to Ukraine.
