Russia has used far more mines than its military doctrine allows
A recent British intelligence report says that in recent weeks, Russia has improved its tactics to slow down Ukrainian counteroffensives in the south of the country.
The Russian military has begun to make more use of anti-tank mines.
"In some areas, the density of minefields indicates that Russia has likely used many more mines than its military doctrine suggests," the report says.
Having slowed down the advance of the Ukrainian military with the help of minefields, Russia is trying to strike at Ukrainian armored vehicles with drones, attack helicopters and artillery.
Although Russia has achieved some success in the early stages of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, the authors of the report note, Russian troops continue to suffer from overloaded units and a shortage of artillery ammunition.
