Minister of Agriculture: Destruction of Kakhovka Reservoir killed all the fish in it
According to Solskyi's estimates, more than 11 thousand tons of fish and 85 fish farms were lost

Due to the russians blowing up the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, all the fish in the reservoir were actually destroyed. In total, more than 11 thousand tonnes of fish were lost.
Source. This was stated by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solskyi, the press service of the Ministry reports.
According to Solskyi, after the destruction of the reservoir, the fish, which was carried by the water flow to the lower reaches of the Dnieper River within the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, ended up on the floodplains.
"When the water flowed out, the area of land covered was 150 thousand hectares. And while the water was coming down, it took the fish with it and destroyed all 85 fish farms that traditionally caught aquatic bioresources and were located downstream: 49 in the Kakhovka reservoir and 36 in the Dnieper-Bug estuary system. The total amount of losses from direct loss and loss of offspring due to deterioration of living conditions due to water discharge from the Kakhovka reservoir is 9.8 billion UAH," the minister said.
According to the minister, the dam will take at least seven years to rebuild. In particular, it will take time to rebuild the hydroelectric power plant and for water to fill the dam.
"It will take several years to actually rebuild the hydroelectric power plant, then 2-3 years for the water to fill the dam. After that, it will take time to repair and restore the canals and irrigation systems that were built in the 1970s and 1990s. That is, at least seven years," he said.
"99% of the problems caused by the hydroelectric power plant explosion are concentrated on the left bank. This season, we did not really count on products from there. But we all definitely count on this region in the future, and this is the main problem. We will feel all the consequences in full after the liberation of this territory," added the Minister of Agriculture.
Background. As a reminder, according to the Ministry of Environment, environmental damage caused by russia's aggression against Ukraine amounts to 4 billion UAH daily.
