Negotiations continue in russia regarding the future of the Wagner PMC – British Intelligence

Following the Wagner group's mutiny in russia on 23-24 June, led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a period of negotiations began within the russian security services. In recent days, interim agreements concerning the future of the Wagner Private Military Company (PMC) have begun to form in russia.

The UK Ministry of Defence reported this, citing intelligence data.

The intelligence notes that on 12 July, the russian Ministry of Defence announced the transfer of 2,000 units of military equipment, including tanks, to Prigozhin's groups. As of 15 July, at least a small contingent of Wagner PMC fighters arrived at a camp in Belarus.

Meanwhile, some groups on social media, linked with the PMC, have resumed activity, focusing on highlighting Prigozhin's mercenaries' actions in Africa, analysts point out.

"Based on recent announcements by russian officials, the state is likely prepared to accept Wagner’s aspirations to maintain its extensive presence on the continent," the UK Ministry of Defence summarises.

Background. As a reminder, according to CNN, russian dictator vladimir putin offered the mercenaries of the Wagner PMC to have a senior militant named Andrey Troshov command the private military group.

It appears that putin has created a split between the senior militants of the mercenary group and its founder Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose location is currently publicly unknown. russian media reported a meeting held by the russian president five days after the attempted Wagner mutiny in late June – Prigozhin and several dozen senior PMC militants were also present at the meeting.

Responding to a question from Kommersant, putin said that Wagner "legally does not exist" under russian law, adding that the russian government has to decide what to do with the organisation further.
