Nearly 70% of new foreign businesses in Poland have been opened by Ukrainians
Over 2,000 Ukrainian sole proprietorships are created each month since the beginning of 2023
During the period of full-scale war in Ukraine, 29,400 Ukrainian sole proprietorships have been registered in Poland.
This is evidenced by data from the Polish Economic Institute (PEI).
This year, Ukrainian citizens have already opened about 14,000 companies in Poland – this is almost as many as the total for the whole of 2022.
Before the large-scale war, in 2022, about 200 Ukrainian individual enterprises were registered in Poland per month. From May onwards, this figure reached 1,000, and since the beginning of 2023 – over 2,000.
The most Ukrainian sole proprietorships operate in the fields of construction (23%), information and communication. And 85% of Ukrainian entrepreneurs provide hairdressing and cosmetology services.
"In 2022, Ukrainians opened almost 16,000 businesses in Poland. However, in October – December 2022, we observed a decrease in the pace of new firm creation, but 2023 brought record volumes.
Since the beginning of 2023, each month we have seen the creation of over 2,000 Ukrainian sole proprietorships. Ukrainian companies account for 67% of all new foreign businesses and 10% of all firms created during the first half of 2023," said Katarzyna Dembkowska, Head of the Economic Forecasting Group at the institute.
