EU Council extends anti-russian sanctions for 6 months
It is reported that they will be in effect until 31 January 2024, and were first implemented in 2014
The Council of the European Union has taken the decision to extend anti-russian sanctions, aimed at specific sectors of the russian economy, until the 31 of January 2024.

It is clarified that the sanctions were first introduced in 2014 and were significantly expanded in February 2022 in response to russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression against Ukraine.
It is noted that the current restrictions cover a broad range of sectoral measures. Specifically, a ban on the import or transfer of oil and petroleum products to the EU, blocking SWIFT, as well as suspending licenses of pro-kremlin disinformation channels. There are also measures against circumventing sanctions.
