DTEK requires 8.5 billion UAH for power capacity repairs ahead of next winter – CEO
The energy holding company lost 40% of its capacity last year
DTEK requires 8.5 billion UAH to restore capacities destroyed during missile attacks.
This was stated by DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko in an interview with Forbes.
According to him, the energy holding company lost 40% of its capacities: last year, DTEK entered winter with a capacity of 6,000 MW, and exited with 3,700 MW. The company has a detailed plan to approach the next winter with a capacity of 4,800 MW.
"Last winter, we were saved by the presence of our own equipment reserves," said Timchenko. "This winter will not be any easier."
It is noted that DTEK has preliminarily agreed with the government for a loan of 5 billion UAH under the 5-7-9 programme: "In February, I received a clear agreement that we would receive these funds," says Timchenko. "As of July, we have not yet received a single penny."
International financial organisations do not finance coal power plants, so they cannot directly provide funds for the restoration of units or transformers at thermal power plants, he says.
"We will do everything possible to prepare for this winter. This is our main priority," said Timchenko. If the loan is not granted, DTEK will cut investments in coal mining, he added.
Background. From March to June of this year, DTEK Energy carried out seven repairs of thermal power unit blocks. The same number is currently in process. These are planned repairs as the power plant's equipment was heavily utilised during the last heating season and should be ready for the same workload next winter.
During the current repair campaign, DTEK Energy plans to repair 27 power unit blocks.
