The Ukrainian government is preparing the first tender for demining the country. The authorities intend to involve private companies in the process.
According to Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the mined areas will be divided into several segments: critical infrastructure, residential areas, agricultural land, forests and water areas. Almost all areas, except for critical infrastructure, will be cleared of mines by private companies, Polish Radio reports.
According to preliminary estimates, one sixth of the country's territory is contaminated with mines. russians use at least 13 types of mines.
The GLOBSEC analytical center has estimated that one sapper can clear 15 to 25 square meters of land per day, depending on its terrain and mine density.
If 500 teams were involved, GLOBSEC calculated that it would take 757 years to clear Ukraine of mines.
