The American company, Google, has started blocking corporate services of Google Workspace (corporate email, documents, etc.) for several russian companies that have fallen under U.S . sanctions.

This was reported by Kommersant.

According to sources in two major IT companies, on the night of 10 August, Google began to massively block corporate services of Google Workspace (corporate email, Google documents, Google Drive, etc.) for russian companies that are under U.S. sanctions.

The sources indicate that the U.S. corporation justified the blocking by sending "spam messages."

Background. In May 2022, it was revealed that Google intended to liquidate the russian LLC Google and relocate employees who wished to continue working for the American company. By June, LLC Google had filed for bankruptcy.

As explained by the head of cloud solutions development at Softline (a distributor of Google Workspace), Kirill Vinokurov, the American company can block accounts for violating service usage rules.

Corporate clients frequently approach Softline with issues related to Google services. However, so far, according to Vinokurov, there hasn't been a surge in blockages.

A source close to Google claims that no intentional changes to the access of Workspace services in russia were made.
