UPDATED: EU grants Ukraine another tranche of €1.5 billion – Shmyhal
The total EU budget support for 2023 has now reached €12 billion, the Prime Minister adds
Today, Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced that the country received another macro-financial tranche from the EU, totalling €1.5 billion.
"The overall EU budget support for 2023 has now reached €12 billion," he highlighted.
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also emphasised the EU's commitment to aiding Ukraine.
She remarked, "We are supporting Ukraine in its efforts to repair, recover and keep the state running. Today we paid a new €1.5 billion to Ukraine. And more will come, this year and beyond."
According to the Ministry of Finance, the loan has a maturity of 35 years. The EU will pay interest and other loan servicing fees instead of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Finance also noted that the MFA, as in previous periods, was used to finance priority state budget expenditures, including social and humanitarian ones.
"The European Union is one of the largest donors of financial assistance to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale war with russia, the total amount of direct budget support provided under the MFA programmes has already reached €19.2 billion," said Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko.
As reported by the Ministry of Finance, the next tranches under the large-scale MFA programme are expected by the end of 2023, taking into account Ukraine's compliance with the structural policy conditions agreed by the parties.
