The Estonians emphasize that security in the airspace of Estonia and Latvia will increase significantly after the acquisition of the systems.
"The barbaric war waged by Russia in Ukraine shows that air defense is crucial for protecting the population, armed forces and critical infrastructure from attacks," said Hanna Pevkur, head of the Estonian Ministry of Defense.
In turn, Latvian Minister Ināra Mūrniece noted that the German system is fully compliant with NATO systems, so the entire region will benefit from it. The signing took place near Nuremberg, Germany.
The weapon itself is designed to combat manned and unmanned aircraft and cruise missiles, as well as certain types of ballistic missiles. The system is mobile in nature and is capable of neutralizing multiple targets simultaneously and destroying the threat at a distance of up to 40 km.
Background. As reported, Estonia may become the first country in the EU to legalize the confiscation of Russian assets under sanctions.
